Secrets: During Peter’s honeymoon in Africa, the majesty and grace of its creatures inspired him to sculpt this elegant piece. In this box figurine, the giraffes have stripped the trees of their leaves so that there is no shade for the lion cubs. However, the giraffes know the cubs have full bellies and are no threat, and allow them to take cover from the fierce sun, a moment of harmony in the animal kingdom. The initial 500 pieces have the mouse under the chin of a giraffe. During the moulding process the mouse became nearly unrecognisable, so it was moved between the lion’s paws. A South African cent is carved within, commemorating Peter and Andrea’s honeymoon. Hallmarks include ©, diamond, HBC logo, ed.#, and Pc.
Part of a beautiful collection purchased from a former collector who never displayed her collection, this box has been carefully checked and is in perfect condition with the original box. The outer green box shows some slight age and storage wear. ~ Jules
